Designs in Fine & Decorative Art by Debra Henkener
Welcome to my Log Cabin art studio. As you explore my site, you will find a variety of original artwork, instructional pattern packets & books, and products related to particular projects. The most current items are found in “What’s New”, in the Shop. The “Schedule” contains current classes, seminars, and demonstrations. A free mini –lesson can help to motivate beginners and challenge more experienced artists. Find the lesson in the “FrogBlog”. The lesson changes every two to three weeks and will include fine art and/or decorative techniques.
My website is unique because it contains a diverse combination of artwork, in many different mediums. I work mainly in watercolor, acrylic, oil, pencil, and willow charcoal. My style is also unique because I have never settled into one area. I love the freedom of variety! I am drawn to whimsical characters, traditional folk art, realistic fine art (painting and drawing), and contemporary fine art (acrylics and collage).
Pins and ornaments are still a big part of my whimsical line. However, I have expanded them to include pendants and fine art jewelry. I love to design snowmen, Santa, elves, pumpkins, ghosts, bugs, and frogs, of course! Most of my whimsical designs can be enlarged (or reduced) and adapted to other surfaces. So, I encourage you to experiment and use your creative license with this idea, then let me know what you have done.
Art & Coffee is an on-going class I teach at Riverside Art Center, in my hometown of Wapakoneta, Ohio. It is a relaxed class that concentrates on building friendships and sharing fellowship, as well as expanding our knowledge of art. We usually experiment with a mixed bag of subjects and techniques. Sometimes, we do a series of beginner watercolors or all acrylics. But, whatever we do, it is relaxed, fun, and stress relieving. I believe that if you are not having fun, then it is not worth your time. It is just as important to enjoy the process of creating art, as it is to finish it. So, the next time you take a class, try to enjoy the experience. Take time to meet the teacher and the people around you. Be the light in the room: smile, tell a joke, relate a story, be helpful to your neighbor, and give a real compliment to someone who is having a bad day. It will help you and the other students to relax and enjoy. You will have fond memories of that class.
I am so privileged and blessed to have a career in art. I realize and appreciate my rare circumstances: being able to work in a profession I love! I believe it is a wonderful gift from God. I honor Him and give Him the glory when I am at my best, when I achieve success, and when I am privileged to share it with others. Art is a window to the heart and soul. My art is inspired by my Christian faith, my wonderful family and friends, my patient husband, and by the history and beauty of the area that surrounds our rustic log cabin.
