I'm sure many of my friends have been wondering why I've been away from the FogBlog for quite some time. The reason is a good one and really very exciting! I've been helping a group of local artists form a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting fine arts. Here's an update on what we have accomplished in the past few months. We have formed a Board of Trustees and named ourselves the Riverside Art Center or RAC. We've become a registered corporation, have a Federal EIN, and have filed our Code of Regulations with Form 1023. We may have a long wait to receive the not-for-profit blessing of the Federal government to become a 501(c)(3). These things take up to nine months! (It has been similar to having a baby, come to think of it! Ha!)

We conducted a logo contest in May and chose a very elegant design by Professional Graphic Artist and Illustrator, Angie Elshoff. The logo is being used in all areas of advertising. I'll see if I can get it up in the Blog sometime soon. The RAC also found a building to rent in the heart of our downtown business district: located at 9 West Auglaize St., in Wapakoneta, Ohio. We are currently painting and sprucing it up for our September 1 opening. We would like to buy the building if funding comes through. A Grand Opening is being planned for later that month.

Marcia Maas is our Gallery & Program Director and has arranged schedules for several artist/Instructors to teach classes in various mediums including watercolors, decorative art, pottery, and drawing. Classes begin the first week of September and run through the first week of December for this quarter. I will place the entire schedule in the site, once everything is finalized.

I will begin teaching Decorative Art in Acrylics, two days per month (two classes each day). My first three projects will be for new or "rusty" painters, then we'll move into intermediate classes for the next four projects. An afternoon class will be geared more toward "Seniors" and an evening class for all others, age 12 and over. I will put my schedule in the site once we decide on times.

I may add a children's after school class (maybe 3:30 to 5PM). These would start out as simple craft projects that would introduce kids to creative thinking and designing with color.

We will be represented at the Auglaize County Fair (July 31 - Aug. 5) in two ways. First, we will be manning a booth in the Commercial Building. It will be decorated with raffle items of donated artwork: tickets are $1.00 each. Secondly, we are sponsoring a fine art project in the Lima News tent on Kids Day, August 1, from Noon to 5PM. The Wapak Telephone Service Co. and Alan Davis Insurance are also sponsors. The project is free, so send you kids to our tent!

Memberships to the Riverside Art Center are available and donations are being accepted. Brochures can be requested by simply e-mailing me through my site. Give your name, address, and e-mail address, so we can put you on our mailing list and e-mail notification list. We can really use your help, if you are a local supporter. We would appreciate whatever time &/or energy you can spare.
